Oni Press and Jamie S. Rich present The Big Sleep

The historic Hollywood Theatre is be teaming up with Oni Press to present Howard Hawks’ noir thriller The Big Sleep.

Oni contributor Jamie S. Rich will be on hand to discuss how the film inspired and influenced his graphic novel “You Have Killed Me”.

Jamie S. Rich is the author of four prose novels, including Cut My Hair, I Was Someone Dead, and The Everlasting. He wrote the comics series Love the Way You Love, which was illustrated by Marc Ellerby. Additionally, he has had short stories in Four-Letter Worlds, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Food Chain, Put the Book Back on the Shelf, The Dark Horse Book of the Dead, and This is a Souvenir, teaming him with artists as diverse as Andi Watson, Chynna Clugston, Guy Davis, Natalie Nourigat, and Kelley Seda. He spends a lot of his time watching movies, which he reviews for DVDTalk.com.

The Big Sleep is a 1946 film noir classic that reunited director Howard Hawks with stars Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall who had starred for him in the 1944 film To Have and Have Not. Bogart plays private detective Philip Marlowe who is hired by the wealthy Sternwood family to investigate a blackmailer. While working the case he falls for the eldest daughter Vivian Rutledge (Bacall) which further complicates the case as it becomes more mysterious and dangerous. In 1997 The Big Sleep was added to the National Film Registry for it’s cultural and historical significance.
